PLAYER OF THE MATCH
Marufa Akter

How impressive was that from Bangladesh! From start to finish they never let Pakistan in the game and seemed to enjoy the conditions on offer. This is the only game they'll play in Colombo though and will have to adjust as the tournament goes on. Let's see how they go. Pakistan just didn't turn up today. And next up for them is a strong Indian team on Sunday. That's all for now. This is Sagar Chawla signing off on behalf of MS Ramakrishnan and Nikhil Jadhav. Goodbye!

Nigar Sultana | Bangladesh captain: Happy. Good toss to lose. We also wanted to bat. Just told the girls that we needed wickets in powerplay. Marufa stole the show the way she bowled in powerplay. She's young and very matured. Knows her role well. She's very confident and everyone backed her up. After the first innings we spoke about playing our natural game. Rubya batted really well on her debut game. Sometimes you feel pressure when you lose early wickets. Batters going in want to build partnerships. This is the kind of culture we want to build. We wanted to begin with a strong win, it gives us the momentum to carry through to the rest of the tournament.

Fatima Sana | Pakistan captain: In the first couple of overs, they got early wickets which was the turning point. Will try to bounce back in the coming days and hopefully we can win. No, I wouldn't say nerves, we just collapsed early on. Will try to execute our plans better next time. Some of the players are playing first time in the World Cup and there is pressure on them. Everyone is a match-winner and need to be calm on the crease. Have to believe in ourselves. Hopefully, that will show in our next performances. Was a better pitch for the fast bowlers. Was seaming. Was good for batting too but we didn't execute our plans.

Marufa Akter | Player of the Match: I would like to thank my team members. They supported me (from the other end), they all told me you're a lovely bowler and inspired me. Our analyst told me to give my best shot, I managed to do it. I was getting some good swing, I maintained my line and lengths while bowling. Both wickets were my favourite. I am the best fielder in our team.

The start to the chase wasn't great but the arrival of captain Nigar Sultana got the runs flowing. In her presence, debutant Rubya Haider also gained confidence and showed her range of shots as she marked her debut with a lovely fifty. They got home at a canter in the end.

20:40 Local Time, 15:10 GMT, 20:40 IST: Absolute domination from Bangladesh today. The only thing that didn't go their way was the toss. It was the Pakistan captain who called right and chose to bat, but they were on the back foot straightaway thanks to Marufa Akter's brilliance with the new ball. A couple of booming inswingers set the tone for what eventually proved to be a brilliant day in the office. After Marufa's spell, the spinners took over and had the opposition in a stranglehold. They ensured the scoreboard went nowhere while also chipping away at the wickets, and Pakistan were skittled out for just 129.

Sadia Iqbal to Sobhana Mostary, no run, coming in with the arm on middle and leg, Mostary goes back and punches down the pitch

30.2

Sadia Iqbal to Rubya Haider, 1 run, leading edge loops over the keeper! Tossed up and dipping on a length, Rubya tries working it through the on-side but closes the face too early. Was she looking to sweep and then changed the shot? Either way, gets away with it
